Perth Minibus Hire for the Swan Valley, Fremantle and Beyond
Perth's days out come in two sizes. There are the short hops, like Fremantle and the Swan Valley at about half an hour each, and there are the big country drives out to the Pinnacles or Margaret River. A minibus with a driver handles both.
Half an hour from town
The Swan Valley's wineries and food producers sit about 25 km north-east of the city, close enough for a relaxed afternoon of tastings with nobody needing to worry about the breathalyser.
Fremantle, about 20 km away, is made for wandering: markets, the West End and the old prison. The City of Fremantle maps its tour coach bays, and the prison has two bays right outside plus two more on Parry Street, so drop-offs there are easy.

Arriving by ship
Rottnest and the quokkas
Rottnest is car-free, so the minibus takes you to a ferry terminal and meets you there when you return. From Fremantle the boat takes around 25 minutes; from Hillarys, around 45; from the city's Barrack Street Jetty, closer to 90. Pick the one that suits your hotel and how much time you'd like on the island.
The long drives
The Pinnacles in Nambung National Park are about two and a half hours away, Margaret River around three hours, and Wave Rock near Hyden roughly four. That last one is a very long day, and many groups prefer to stay overnight. Western Australia runs its own heavy-vehicle fatigue scheme, and the operator plans driver hours for the length of your trip. WA park entry applies at Nambung.
Closer in, Mandurah is about an hour's drive and York about an hour and a quarter.
Around the city and the airport
Perth has no toll roads. In the city, loading zones are for goods vehicles only and buses can't stop in them even for a moment, so pickups are arranged at spots where a bus is allowed to pull in.
Perth Airport has two separate precincts, T1 with T2 and T3 with T4, about 10 minutes' drive apart. Check which one your airline uses before you book. From T1 it's about 17 km to Town Hall, or 13 km from T3, and roughly 20 minutes outside peak times.
Your questions
Which Rottnest ferry is quickest?
The Fremantle crossing, at about 25 minutes. The city departure is the longest, at around an hour and a half.
Can we do Margaret River as a day trip?
It's about three hours each way, which makes for a long day. An overnight stay gives you time for the wineries and the coast.
Can you meet a ship at Fremantle?
Yes. The Fremantle Passenger Terminal is on Victoria Quay, about 30 km from Perth Airport, and the car park there is for pickups and drop-offs on cruise days.
