Minibus Hire Across Australia

Fremantle Cruise Days by Minibus

Fremantle is Perth's cruise port, and its Passenger Terminal on Victoria Quay is only about 800 m from the old port town's centre. You can almost stroll into Fremantle from the ship. Reaching Perth, the airport or wine country is where a minibus earns its place.

At the terminal on Victoria Quay

On ship days the car park at the terminal works purely as a drop-off and pick-up area, and nobody can leave a car there while they sail. Taxis and rideshare work from Peter Hughes Drive, where there's a rank.

Every passenger, joining or leaving, clears customs, quarantine and security checks in the terminal building, so the first people off aren't always the first to the kerb. Give the driver a mobile that will be switched on, and message once the whole group is through.

The run to Perth Airport

The airport is about 30 km from the terminal, 35 to 45 minutes by road. Check which precinct your airline uses: T1/T2 and T3/T4 are around ten minutes' drive apart, with coach bays at each. If you fly out on the day you disembark, leave a generous buffer for the ship, the formalities and the drive.

Western Australia runs its own passenger transport rules. Anyone who drives you for hire or reward must hold a PTD (passenger transport driver) authorisation, which has to be renewed each year, and there are no toll roads in the state to plan around.

A day ashore, or one either side

Rottnest Island ferries leave from Fremantle itself, about 25 minutes across. Private vehicles can't go to the island, so your driver drops you at the ferry terminal and collects you when you're back. The Swan Valley's wineries are about half an hour from Perth.

In Fremantle, the council maps its tour coach bays, some with time limits, and Fremantle Prison has bays right outside plus more on Parry Street. With two free days, Margaret River is about three hours south of Perth: a long outing, best with an early start.

Your questions

Is there a shuttle from Fremantle station?

Yes, on turnaround days. It's free, leaves roughly every 20 minutes from Fremantle train station, and starts an hour after the ship berths, finishing around 4 pm. With a group and luggage, a pre-booked vehicle is simpler.

Could we walk from the station?

It's roughly ten minutes on foot, nearer twenty pulling cases, and trains run on to Perth with connections to the airport.

Where can we park during the cruise?

Not at the terminal. Cruise passengers leaving a car for the voyage use Zone 3, down the western end of Victoria Quay, or a city car park like Kings Square.
