The people mover, for small groups who like room to stretch
A people mover such as a Mercedes V-Class or Vito typically seats 6 or 7 passengers and keeps bags in a space behind the rear seats. It's our pick for families, small teams and winery days when a minibus would be more than you need.
Small group, big comfort
Six friends heading to the Barossa, a family of seven landing for a reunion, a small leadership team off to a client dinner: a people mover fits all of these neatly. It's easy to park at a cellar door and slips into hotel driveways without fuss.
Luggage goes in the space behind the back row. With every seat full and big suitcases, check the bag count with us first.

How the rules treat a van this size
Because a van this size can be driven on a car licence, the rules that matter are the ones about carrying paying passengers, and they change at each border. NSW regulates it much like a hire car, as point to point transport. Victoria treats only vehicles built for 10 or more adults, driver included, as buses, so a van this size isn't one. In WA, the person at the wheel needs a yearly PTD authorisation.
The HVNL's work and rest limits are aimed at buses built for more than 12 adults, so for a long day in a people mover, ask the operator how the driver's breaks are planned.
On board
- In Western Australia, anyone driving passengers for hire or reward needs a passenger transport driver (PTD) authorisation, renewed annually
- In Victoria, a bus is a vehicle built with seating for 10 or more adults, including the driver, so a van seating 6 or 7 passengers is not one
- In NSW, trips in vehicles with 12 seats or fewer, including the driver, are point to point services regulated by the Point to Point Transport Commissioner
- A vehicle of up to 4.5 t GVM seating up to 12 adults, including the driver, can be driven on a class C (car) licence
Where a people mover works best
Airport pickups for families, winery and day tours, executive transfers and small wedding parties. It's also handy at the Hobart cruise wharf, where vehicles under 12 seats can park in a waterfront voucher space while the driver walks in to meet you.
Your questions
How many people fit in a people mover?
Typically 6 or 7 passengers. The quote names the seats in the actual vehicle offered.
Is a people mover enough for 7 people with suitcases?
Sometimes, with soft bags. For large suitcases, ask for a minibus quote alongside.
Can we book a people mover for a whole day?
Yes. Winery days and sightseeing days are common bookings. Share the stops and the return time.
