Minibus Hire Across Australia

Minibus pickups at Tullamarine for families, clubs and wedding guests

Touching down at Tullamarine for a wedding, a reunion or a weekend of footy? A minibus or people mover with a driver gathers the whole party at the terminal and gets you into Melbourne, up to the Yarra Valley or down the coast, with no hire-car queue at all.

How a group pickup works here

Charter vehicles at Melbourne Airport use dedicated permit areas for groups. Outside Terminals 1, 2 and 3 the bus zones are on the forecourt; for Terminal 4, look for the Ground Transport Hub at the bottom level of the T4 car park. There's no separate coach holding area, so your driver waits in the allotted zone and stays with the vehicle.

Time in those zones is limited, which is why your flight number matters. The pickup is set for when you've actually collected your bags, not the moment the wheels touch down.

Private cars and the new hub

From October 2026, anyone fetching you in a private car at Terminals 1 to 3 heads for the T123 Transport Hub, a new pick-up hub reached from Naarm Way, and the kerbside stays with buses, coaches, taxis and rideshare. If Grandad is getting a lift with a cousin while everyone else takes the minibus, they'll be leaving from different spots, so agree where to say goodbye inside the terminal.

The terminals

  • Terminal 4
  • Terminal 3 (Virgin Australia domestic)
  • Terminal 2 (International)
  • Terminal 1 (Qantas domestic)

Good to know at Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine)

  • An airport express bus runs between the airport (stops outside Terminals 1, 3 and 4) and Southern Cross Station in the city.
  • From October 2026, private cars picking up at Terminals 1-3 move to the new T123 Transport Hub off Naarm Way; the existing kerbside pick-up area is reduced and kept for the airport express bus, coaches, buses, taxis and rideshare.
  • Buses must not use the elevated road unless directed by an authorised person; a separate fee applies to accessing Departure Drive.
  • Access fees are debited from the operator's prepaid Bus Account each time a bus leaves the forecourt or the Ground Transport Hub, and congestion fees apply beyond the permitted dwell times.
  • Operators of vehicles with 10 or more seats (including the driver's) must be accredited with Safe Transport Victoria.
  • Every operator using the forecourt or the T4 Ground Transport Hub commercially needs a permit, issued once the company registers in the airport's online Bus Account System with its ABN, bus accreditation certificate and vehicle registrations showing seating capacity.

Into the city, or straight out of it

Flinders Street Station is about 28 km away, roughly 30 minutes in light traffic along the Tullamarine Freeway and tolled CityLink. Allow longer at peak times. Melbourne's toll roads are cashless, so there's nowhere to stop and pay.

Lots of groups head out of town instead. Both the Yarra Valley and the Dandenongs are about an hour from the city, while Phillip Island and Lorne are around two. Planning the Twelve Apostles? Once the new visitor centre opens (due in October 2026), a booked time slot is needed for the main precinct, so sort yours out before you fly.

Landing at Avalon instead?

Some flights use Avalon Airport, about 50 minutes from the CBD. It has its own page, and it's the handier choice if you're staying in Geelong or starting along the Great Ocean Road.

Your questions

Which terminal should we give the driver?

That depends on your airline. Terminal 1 is Qantas domestic, Terminal 2 international and Terminal 3 Virgin Australia domestic; if you're flying with another airline, check your booking, as Terminal 4 has its own pick-up area.

We're 18 people with golf clubs. What should we book?

A minibus seats 16 to 19, but its luggage space shrinks when every seat is taken. Mention the clubs up front; the operator may suggest a midi coach of 29 to 35 seats instead.

Can one late arrival follow on alone?

Yes. An airport express bus leaves from outside Terminals 1, 3 and 4 for Southern Cross Station in the city, a simple fallback for someone on a delayed flight.
