Minibus Hire Across Australia

Hobart Airport minibus transfers for your Tasmanian trip

Flying into Hobart for a vineyard wedding, a family loop around the south or a club weekend? A people mover or minibus, with its driver, can meet the whole group at the terminal and have you over the Tasman Bridge and into town in under half an hour.

The Commercial Lane

Hobart Airport has one terminal. Right outside, a boom-gated Commercial Lane runs alongside the public pick-up lane, and that's where booked vehicles, from people movers to coaches, load and unload.

The airport publishes no coach waiting area, and nothing can be left unattended at the kerb, so the timing hangs on your flight number. Send it with the booking.

The short hop to town

The airport quotes the city as 17 km away; by road to Franklin Square it's nearer 20 km, a 15 to 20 minute run along the highway. There are no toll roads anywhere in Tasmania.

Good to know at Hobart Airport

  • An airport express bus meets major scheduled flights from outside the arrivals hall forecourt (Gate 1) and takes about 30 minutes to central Hobart.
  • Vehicles at the terminal kerb must be attended at all times; unattended vehicles are fined and may be towed.
  • Drivers must show their driver accreditation or proof of a current Tasmanian driving licence when asked by airport staff or security officers.
  • All commercial vehicles must meet Hobart Airport's Terms and Conditions of Access; entry to the Commercial Lane is by access card or licence-plate recognition, and access fees apply.

Out and about in the south

Richmond, with its convict-built bridge, is about 25 minutes from Hobart, a gentle first stop for tired travellers. Port Arthur is about an hour and a half; Mount Field and Russell Falls about an hour and a quarter; Freycinet is a big day at close to three hours each way.

Bruny Island is reached by vehicle ferry from Kettering, around 40 minutes from the city. Tickets are for the next sailing with space rather than a set departure, so build some slack into the day. Tasmania's national parks all need a parks pass, so check that everyone is covered.

Keen to go up kunanyi / Mount Wellington? Pinnacle Road is sealed but twisty, there's not much room to park at the summit, and snow or ice can shut it, usually in the cooler months from April to September.

Your questions

Is there an airport bus for someone on a later flight?

Yes. An airport express bus meets major flights outside the arrivals hall and reaches central Hobart in about half an hour. For a group with luggage, a booked vehicle is simpler.

Can we call in at MONA on the way?

MONA is at Berriedale, about 11 km north of the city by road. Another option is the ferry from Brooke Street Pier, which has a drop-off zone right in front, so the driver can leave you there and meet you afterwards.

We land in Launceston but fly home from Hobart. Can one vehicle do both?

Yes. Launceston to Hobart is about 200 km on the Midland Highway, two and a half to three hours, and a one-way trip with a driver works well for a group touring the island.
