Minibus Hire Across Australia

Minibus and People Mover Hire in Newcastle, with a Driver

Newcastle is a harbour city with surf beaches on its doorstep, wine country an hour inland and Port Stephens up the coast. With a minibus and a driver, your group can join those dots in one day, and nobody has to stay sober for the drive home.

Beaches, the breakwall and the light rail

The best of central Newcastle happens on foot. Bathers Way follows the coast from Nobbys to Merewether and crosses the Anzac Memorial Walk bridge, and the breakwall out to Nobbys Head is the place to watch ships come through the harbour mouth. Your driver can drop you at one end and be waiting at the other.

Along Hunter and Scott streets the light rail runs in its own lane, and no minibus or coach may drive in it, so set-down points are chosen on the side streets. Visiting Newcastle Museum? Its bus zone in Wright Lane is for a quick drop-off only, so the vehicle moves on and comes back for you later.

Landing at Williamtown

Newcastle Airport is out at Williamtown, roughly 35 minutes from City Hall in light traffic and about 30 km away by road. It doesn't publish a waiting area for coaches and the Arrivals kerb is for loading only, so share your flight number and the pickup can be timed to when you're through with your bags.

Coming via Sydney instead? Allow about two hours up the M1. Between the M1 and Sydney, big coaches (over 12.5 m long, or with more than 2.8 m clearance) are routed through the NorthConnex tunnel instead of Pennant Hills Road, and Sydney's tolls are all cashless. Mention any Sydney leg when you ask for a quote.

Where a day out can take you

Pokolbin, in the Hunter Valley, is about 60 km away, an hour along the Hunter Expressway. That leaves the heart of the day for cellar doors and a long lunch. Book the wineries before you go, which larger groups are expected to do, and give your driver a finishing time you'll actually keep.

Port Stephens and Nelson Bay are a similar run to the north-east, and Lake Macquarie is only half an hour south, handy for a quieter afternoon by the water.

Cruise calls at Carrington

Cruise ships berth at Carrington's Channel Berth, and only authorised shore-excursion and shuttle vehicles are let into the port. If you've booked your own minibus, you'll meet it outside the port's Gate House in Carrington, on Enginehouse Road, so keep the group together as you walk out.

Your questions

Can we fit the Hunter Valley and a harbour dinner into one day?

Yes. Pokolbin is about an hour each way, so a morning start gives you most of the day among the vines and dinner back at Honeysuckle. Agree a firm pickup time from the last cellar door.

How many people fit in a people mover?

Usually six or seven, with luggage space behind the back row. For a bigger group, a minibus seats between 16 and 19.

Can the vehicle drop us right at Newcastle Museum?

It can set down in the Wright Lane bus zone near the schools entrance, but it can't park there. You'll be collected from a nearby spot agreed beforehand.
