Holiday, hens or a wedding? Gold Coast Airport pickups
Gold Coast Airport sits at Coolangatta, right where Queensland meets New South Wales, with one terminal for every flight. Book a people mover or minibus with a driver and your group rolls out of arrivals towards the beach, the theme parks or a wedding over the border.
The GT Transit bays
There's no parking in front of the terminal, and the kerb is for quick drop-offs and pick-ups only. Booked vehicles pull into the GT Transit Area instead, a row of angled bays curving round the loop at the far end of Terminal Drive. Before you land they wait in the ground transport holding area off May Bradford Drive.
Every operator has to be registered with the airport, and one without a standing registration needs casual access approved and paid before the day. In practice, book your transfer well ahead rather than on landing.

Daylight saving and the border
Queensland doesn't change its clocks. New South Wales does, from 4 October 2026 to 4 April 2027, so Tweed Heads and Byron Bay are an hour ahead of the Gold Coast in that stretch. If your ceremony is in Byron, about an hour and a quarter from Surfers Paradise, write every pickup time in NSW time and say so on the booking.
The terminals
- Single terminal (domestic and international)
Good to know at Gold Coast Airport
- The airport puts Surfers Paradise about 30 minutes away by car; public bus 777 links the airport with the G:link tram at Broadbeach South.
- Domestic and international flights share one terminal; there is no parking in front of it, and the kerb is for immediate pick-up and drop-off only.
- Coaches with more than 24 seats fit the RFID sticker in the bottom driver's-side corner of the windscreen; smaller coaches and minibuses at the top corner.
- Operators not registered with the airport can apply for casual access to the GT Transit Area; the booking must be approved and paid before the day, or entry is refused.
- Operators need current operator accreditation plus motor vehicle and public liability insurance at the minimum cover the airport sets, and supply copies on request.
- All taxi, bus and limousine operators must register through the Gold Coast Airport Ground Transport Gateway and carry the airport's RFID sticker; fees are debited from a prepaid account as vehicles leave.
Surfers, the parks and the hinterland
From the terminal it's roughly 22 km, about half an hour, to Cavill Mall in Surfers Paradise. The city is building a new coach interchange at the Cypress Palms car park in Surfers through 2026, so expect works around there for now.
Sea World is on The Spit, with Movie World and Dreamworld further north at Oxenford and Coomera. For a greener day, Tamborine Mountain is about 45 minutes from the coast and Springbrook's Natural Bridge around an hour, both good half-days with someone else at the wheel.
Your questions
Brisbane or Gold Coast Airport: which should we fly into?
If you're staying on the Gold Coast, usually Gold Coast. From Brisbane Airport, Surfers Paradise is some 85 km south, at least an hour's drive.
Where exactly do we meet the driver?
In the GT Transit Area, the angled bays where Terminal Drive loops round beside the building. Collect your bags, gather the group, and walk out together.
Do international and domestic flights use different terminals?
No. Everything uses the one terminal, so a family arriving from overseas and cousins flying up from Melbourne can meet under the same roof.
