Minibus Hire Across Australia

Flying into Sydney together? Your minibus meets you at Kingsford Smith

Landing at Sydney Kingsford Smith with a family, a wedding party or a club means plenty of bags and a few tired faces. A minibus or people mover booked with a driver collects everyone in one go and takes you to the hotel, the harbour or straight out to the mountains.

Where you'll find your driver

Booked vans and buses don't hover at the terminal doors. They wait in a holding area on Ross Smith Avenue, near the Blu Emu car park, and only drive into the loading area once your flight is on the ground. Each terminal has its own bus and coach pick-up spot inside its Ground Transport Zone, so the vehicle comes to you.

Every bus at the airport has to be pre-booked, so share your flight number when you ask for a quote. The operator watches the landing and times the move from the holding area, which means less standing about with luggage trolleys.

International or domestic? Check before you fly

T1 International and the T2/T3 Domestic precinct are separate terminal areas. If some of your party flies in from overseas and the rest connect from Perth, that can mean two pickups. It's usually simpler to choose one meeting terminal and let the latecomers ride the Airport Link train across, since it stops at both.

The terminals

  • T3 Domestic
  • T2 Domestic
  • T1 International

Good to know at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport

  • T1 International and the T2/T3 Domestic precinct are separate terminal areas; Airport Link trains stop at both and reach the city in about 13 minutes.
  • Drivers may not solicit passengers or leave vehicles unattended at the terminal frontages; drop-offs are made on the Departures level roadway at the terminal frontage.
  • Each vehicle needs one electronic toll tag (e-TAG) valid on NSW roads and registered with Sydney Airport; boom gates open into a loading zone only when a valid tag is read, and access fees are charged by tag.
  • Bus and coach companies must register with the Sydney Airport Bus and Limousine Registration System before operating at the airport, and all bus services there must be pre-booked.

The city, or somewhere further

From T1 it's roughly 13.5 km by road to Town Hall: 15 to 20 minutes if the roads are clear. At peak times it's much slower, so a late-afternoon arrival should keep dinner plans loose. Sydney's toll roads are all cashless and each vehicle carries its own e-TAG, so nobody hunts for a card on the motorway.

Plenty of groups skip the city altogether. Katoomba and Echo Point take about an hour and three-quarters, Wollongong about an hour and a quarter, and Pokolbin in the Hunter around two hours, close enough for a family to land in the morning and be at a vineyard wedding that afternoon.

A note on Western Sydney

Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport is due to start passenger flights in late October 2026. This page covers Kingsford Smith, so if your flights land at the new airport, tell us when you book.

Your questions

Will the driver wait at the kerb outside arrivals?

No. Buses load only in the Ground Transport Zone, and no vehicle may sit unattended at the terminal frontages. Head for the bus and coach pick-up area at your terminal; that's where the driver pulls in once you've landed.

How many of us fit in a people mover?

Six or seven people, with the bags stowed behind the last row. Larger parties move up to a minibus of 16 to 19 seats, and beyond that a midi coach or full coach.

Can the same vehicle take us back for our flight home?

Yes. On the way home your driver sets you down up on the Departures level, right outside the terminal, so the cases don't travel far. Leave extra time if you're travelling at peak hour.
