Adelaide Airport to the city, the Barossa or the Hills by minibus
Adelaide Airport is only about 7 km from Victoria Square, so the ride into town is short. Where a minibus with a driver really earns its keep is the next part: wine country, the Adelaide Hills and the coast, all within easy reach.
Where your driver pulls in
Adelaide has one terminal for domestic and international flights. Buses, coaches and other vehicles too tall or long for the P1 Terminal Car Park load in the bus and shuttle area, which sits at the far southern end of the public kerb for collecting passengers.
Smaller vehicles work differently. If you've booked a chauffeured car instead, its driver waits for you in baggage reclaim at the bottom of the main escalators, then loads from dedicated bays on Level 4 of P1, beside the lifts. Which applies depends on the vehicle booked, and we'll tell you before you fly.

Ten minutes to town
Victoria Square is a 10 to 15 minute drive on a quiet day, with no tolls anywhere in South Australia. That leaves plenty of the day free: drop the bags at the hotel and you could be browsing the Central Market by lunch.
The terminals
- Single terminal (domestic and international)
Good to know at Adelaide Airport
- Adelaide Metro buses J1 and J2 run directly to the city centre from Stop 10 on Sir Richard Williams Avenue, a 2-5 minute walk from the terminal.
- Commercial drivers may operate only in the airport's designated areas; picking up from the public pick-up/drop-off area or on the yellow line is not permitted.
- Fees apply to the bus and shuttle area, and vehicles under 2.4 m high and 5.4 m long may not use it without the airport's prior authorisation.
- Chauffeurs meet passengers at the bottom of the main escalators in baggage reclaim and pick up from dedicated bays on Level 4 of the P1 Terminal Car Park, next to the lifts.
Wine regions within the hour
Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills is about half an hour from the city, McLaren Vale about 45 minutes and the Barossa around an hour. The Clare Valley takes closer to an hour and three-quarters. With a driver, everybody in the group can enjoy the tastings.
On the way back down from the Hills on the South Eastern Freeway, buses must drop into low gear at Crafers and keep to 60 km/h to the bottom, so the descent takes a little longer than it would in a car.
Match days at Adelaide Oval
In town for the footy, the cricket or Gather Round? Buses aren't allowed in the Oval's car parks, and on major event days the drop-off zones are on Pennington Terrace and King William Road. Agree a pickup corner before the first bounce.
Your questions
Can we head to Kangaroo Island straight from the airport?
You can get to the ferry. Cape Jervis is about two hours south of Adelaide and the crossing to Penneshaw takes about 45 minutes. Space for coaches on each sailing is tight, so book the ferry well ahead.
Is there a public bus for someone arriving later?
Yes. The J1 and J2 Adelaide Metro buses head straight into the city from Stop 10, just a short stroll from arrivals.
Can the driver meet us in baggage reclaim?
For a chauffeured car, that's the usual arrangement at Adelaide. With a minibus or coach, you walk out to the bus and shuttle area, where the driver is waiting with the vehicle.
Can we rent a bus at the airport and drive it ourselves?
No. Every minibus, people mover or coach we book comes with its driver, who collects your group from the terminal.
