Minibus Hire Across Australia

Cup Day at Flemington, with a Driver for the Ride Home

Flemington's 2026 Carnival starts on Derby Day, Saturday 31 October, and wraps up a week later on Saturday 7 November, with the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday 3 November. A minibus means your group arrives dressed up and together, and nobody has to think about driving home.

Four race days to pick from

Pick your day: Derby Day on the opening Saturday, Cup Day itself on the Tuesday, Oaks Day on Thursday 5 November, or Champions Stakes Day to finish on the second Saturday. Whichever suits your crowd, book early, since Cup week is a busy time to hire any vehicle in Melbourne.

When and where

  • Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne
  • Melbourne Cup Day is Tuesday 3 November 2026; the Carnival runs from 31 October to 7 November 2026

Getting in and out of Flemington

Flemington doesn't publish set-down rules for coaches or minibuses, so the operator arranges the drop-off spot and a place to wait. The published arrangements are for other traffic. Rideshare drivers let passengers out at the Main Gate; taxis use one rank only, the Main Rank, which you get to along Stables Drive; and ticket holders park free, ideally coming in through Flemington Drive off Epsom Road.

The Victoria Racing Club's advice for 2026 is to take the train: Metro trains shuttle between Southern Cross and the course's own station on all four race days. There's also tram route 57 to Stop 30 on Flemington Drive, by the main gate, though no low-floor trams run on it, so anyone using a mobility aid is better off on the train.

Planning around the last race

The trip home is the part worth planning. Crowds leave at once, phones go flat and heels come off. Agree one meeting point and a time, ask someone to do a headcount, and tell the operator if the group will want a dinner stop on the way back.

Coming from out of town? A minibus can collect from home in the morning: Geelong is about an hour from Melbourne and Ballarat about an hour and a quarter, so a regional group can make a full day of it without anyone behind the wheel.

Your questions

Does the minibus wait at the course all day?

That depends on where it can be parked, which the operator works out because Flemington publishes no coach rules. Usually you'll agree a pickup time and place for the end of the day.

Are these dates right for next year?

No. They're for the 2026 Carnival only; the Victoria Racing Club sets each year's program.

One of our guests uses a wheelchair. What's best?

Tell us when you ask for a quote. Route 57 trams aren't low-floor, so the train or a suitable vehicle arranged ahead is the better choice.
